Alien Word Cards

Practise decoding unknown words with Alien Word Cards, a 147 card set displaying a made-up word for assessing developing decoding skills. Each card contains a decodable non-word that you can use to teach or assess letter sound skills.

Both sides have a unique alien image and the alien word, with the front side featuring colour-coded sound buttons to support the breaking up of the alien word into its units of sound. 

The outside borders are colour-coded in accordance with the phases of our phonics progression. Cards also integrate with the lessons in the Teacher Planners at the different year levels.
